In our collective imagination, an “elopement” often represents the ultimate symbol of romance and passion for a couple.
Elopement, from the English verb “to elope,” describes a type of intimate wedding that embodies the idea of a “love escape” found in classic romance novels. This private celebration is typically witnessed by only a few close guests and often takes place in far-off, picturesque destinations. It’s no surprise that many couples choose Italy as their dream elopement location, with its reputation as one of the Mediterranean’s most scenic gems.
For Kate and Jake, the poetic charm of Portofino was the ideal setting for their wedding. It was the perfect location to exchange their vows and capture unforgettable elopement photos.

With its vibrant-colored houses, flower-adorned balconies, and yachts docked in the harbor, Portofino needs no grand introduction.
Known as one of Italy’s most enchanting villages and one of the Mediterranean’s top destinations, Portofino offers a quintessential Italian atmosphere, ideal for unique couple portraits and weddings. Kate and Jake chose to exchange their wedding vows in the Piazzetta, Portofino’s bustling heart.

Though the weather initially threatened to dampen the day, the sun emerged at just the right moment! We completed the wedding photoshoot under natural light, without needing umbrellas.
After the ceremony, in true Ligurian fashion, we toasted the newlyweds with spritz and focaccia!
How to Capture Perfect Wedding Photos
Like all Italian villages, Portofino has its own unique character, and with the right approach, it offers stunning opportunities for couple photos.
I aimed to create striking contrasts between the vibrant colors of the houses and the couple’s attire, accentuating the beauty of the location.
Portofino, with its medieval origins and vertically built streets, is a maze of narrow, cobblestone alleys. What might seem challenging at first turned into a great opportunity: playing with perspectives allowed the couple to appear as the sole protagonists of this enchanting village, making the atmosphere even more romantic—a true Italian-style wedding shoot.
Although I’d hoped for a rainbow after the rain, Portofino’s charm helped capture Kate and Jake’s love perfectly.
